First 3CX deployment: decisions before configuration
Before creating the first extension, decide on hosting, numbering, SIP connectivity, call flows and operational ownership.
Published 26 September 2026Start with the caller experience
Which numbers do customers call, when are teams available and where should a call go? Review proposed menus, queues and overflow rules with the people who will answer. Basic internal calling does not require buying every contact-centre feature.
Choose deployment and licensing
3CX offers different hosting models and editions. Evaluate concurrent-call demand and specific working scenarios when sizing a system. Check the current edition's capabilities in the official feature list; install instructions, server requirements and ports can change. Licensing, SIP trunks, hosting, implementation and ongoing operation are separate costs.
Validate safely
Before moving every line, test incoming and outbound calling, business hours, transfers, fallback routes and user access. If you need recording or CRM integration, establish permissions and data-protection requirements before switching them on.
Illustrative example: a company first validates one support line and a queue for two departments, then moves other numbers once operational roles and behaviour have been checked. This is not a customer reference or guaranteed timeline.
