3CX and Microsoft Teams: when connecting them makes sense
Teams calling and 3CX can work together. Check edition, Microsoft licences and routing requirements first.
Published 26 September 2026Who is this for?
If staff work in Microsoft Teams but the business needs a separately designed phone system, linking calls through 3CX may be useful. It does not mean all conversations or data automatically become shared across both systems.
Decisions before deployment
3CX documents a Teams connection through Direct Routing. Availability depends on the current 3CX edition and suitable Microsoft Teams Phone licences. Tenant, numbering, domain and network requirements also need review. Calling inside Teams is not the same thing as merely opening a phone number in a different app. Current vendor instructions and supported configuration lists take priority over older setup guides.
Illustrative example: an agent uses Teams for internal conversations while a company service number follows 3CX routing and queues. Whether a particular call takes place within Teams depends on licence and configuration. Validate the setup with selected numbers and scenarios first.
How TelcoWise helps
We review requirements and current licensing for both systems, design call flow, prepare a pilot, test inbound, outbound and transferred calls and agree ongoing support. A universal setup script cannot replace understanding the existing environment.
